The
Firm Man
This seminal effort from Australian filmmaker
John Duigan stars Peter Cummins in the title
role. Not much is known about the firm for
which businessman Gerald Baxter (Cummins)
works, but it seems to have a negative effect
on everyone involved. Baxter just sits at
a desk and plays with toys all day, while
being spied on by two mysterious men in
trench coats. The hero begins to experience
bizarre visions, such as vanishing naked
hippies, while his wife (Eileen Chapman)
commences an affair with a friend of the
family. Sited as some as a psychedelic damnation
of the materialistic backlash of the 1970’s
and others as a drug induced mess, The
Firm Man is a fascinating and intriguing
lost film.
